Welcome to Our School!

Saint Andrews Armenian School is located in the beautiful Saint Andrew Armenian Church. Students gather every Saturday for an engaging, hands-on experience, where learning through play is at the heart of our curriculum. Our higher grade students prepare special projects about Armenia to deepen their knowledge and cultural connection.

Our school provide a welcoming environment where children grow, connect with their Armenian heritage, and develop a strong sense of community. We foster a warm space where students and families come together to celebrate our rich culture and traditions.

Welcome to Saint Andrew Armenian School (SAAS)! We believe that education should be an enriching and enjoyable experience, even on a Saturday. Our mission is to provide high-quality, supplemental education in a supportive and engaging environment. We focus on core subjects while also offering exciting extracurricular activities such as theater to help students discover new passions.

Our dedicated team of educators is passionate about fostering curiosity and confidence in every student.

Anush Hovhannisyan

Grades 2 & 7
Background:
Anush Hovhannisyan was born in Armenia and holds a master’s degree in engineering from the State Engineering University of Armenia. She has lived in the United States for over eighteen years and is married with three children. With great love and dedication, she has served as a teacher in St. Andrew Armenian School since the very first day of the school’s founding.

Nazeli Taroyan

Grades 4 & 6
Background:
Nazeli Taroyan is a Front-End Developer based in the Bay Area. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the State Engineering University of Armenia in 1998. After beginning her career as an Application Support Technician, she moved to the United States in 2010 and has since focused on Web Development.

Shushan Ayvazyan

Grades 4 & 5
Background:
Shushanik Ayvazyan was born in Yerevan, Armenia, and graduated from the State Engineering University of Armenia with a degree in Microelectronics and Semiconductor Devices. She worked as an engineer at Virage Logic and Synopsys Armenia before relocating to the United States, where she homeschooled her children and took an active role in their education. Since 2022, she has been teaching at St. Andrew Armenian School.

Hasmik Aleksandryan

Grade 1
Background:
Hasmik Aleksandryan was born in Yerevan and graduated from the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Yerevan State University. She worked as a correspondent at the state news agency 'Armenpress' and has experience in translation and editorial work. She enjoys working with children and has been helping them with their studies since her school years.

Rev. Fr. Datev Harutyunian

President
Role:
Spiritual leader and president of the school board, providing guidance and vision for the school's mission.
Background:
Rev. Archpriest Fr. Datev Harutyunian graduated from the Polytechnic Institute in Yerevan and the Seminary of Holy Etchmiadzin. Ordained in 1990, he served Armenian communities in Georgia and Russia before moving to the U.S. in 1996. Since 2000, he has been Parish Priest of St. Andrew Armenian Apostolic Church in Cupertino.

Hasmik Simonyan

Chairperson
Role:
Facilitates board discussions, coordinates with school administration, and drives implementation of school policies and initiatives.
Background:
Hasmik Simonyan is a Principal Java Software Engineer at RedSeal Inc. She earned her degree from the State Engineering University of Armenia and previously worked at Cisco. She joined the St. Andrew Armenian School board in 2023 to promote Armenian language and culture.

Hovhannes Tananyan

Vice-Chairperson
Role:
Assists in board leadership, manages special projects, and provides backup support for all board functions.
Background:
Hovhannes Tananyan has a bachelor's degree in Informatics and Applied Mathematics from Yerevan State University and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Russian-Armenian University. Hovhannes is a Principal Engineer at Microsoft Maps and has extensive experience in designing, building and supporting large-scale distributed systems.

Naira Chaloyan

Treasurer
Role:
Manages school finances, budget planning, and ensures fiscal responsibility for all school operations.
Background:
Naira Chaloyan joined the SAAS board in 2025. She lives in San Jose with her family of five - husband, two sons and a daughter. Naira's professional background is in FinTech industry. Outside of work, Naira enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Maintains official records, coordinates communications, and ensures smooth administrative operations.
Background:
Talin Kevorkian is a Senior Software Engineer at Intel Corporation with a master's degree in Computer Science from USC. As a mother of two, she is committed to preserving Armenian language and culture at home and supporting St. Andrew Armenian School's mission.

Background:
Tina Boghozian is a faculty librarian at Mission College with advanced degrees from San Jose State University, including a post-master's certificate in data science. She joined the St. Andrew Armenian School board in 2025.
